CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority will host an emergency preparedness drill at South Central Regional Jail on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011.
During the exercise participants will be given a scenario to which they must respond as if it were a real life event. At present, approximately 16 organizations, mostly comprised of local, state and federal homeland security and first response agencies, are scheduled to attend.
The scenario for the drill will involve an unidentified package suspected to be an explosive device. This will assess the ability of correctional staff and leadership to coordinate with other responders and implement evacuation and emergency procedures.
Jail officials are warning citizens and media not to be alarmed by an influx of emergency vehicles and communications in the area, as these are essential components of the exercise.
This event is closed to the media, however, should you have additional questions you may contact John Lopez, The West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority’s Chief of Operations.
