Report: Gov. Justice appoints Mark Sorsaia as Secretary of Dept. of Homeland Security

DMAPS Launches New Web Site

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety (DMAPS) today officially launched the department’s new website, www.dmaps.wv.gov.

The site is designed to help the public better understand the functions and services of DMAPS and its 12 divisions. In addition, emergency phone numbers are posted along with links to other sites with important public safety information.

The nearly 6,000 employees who work within the department will benefit from the new site, as well. DMAPS employees work at various sites and facilities throughout the entire state, and in the public safety arena it is imperative that they remain connected.

DMAPS Cabinet Secretary Joe Thornton said, “The old MAPS web site was a bit antiquated and I think the new one will help clarify any ambiguities or confusion that the public might have about how our department operates.”

“Our hope is that the public will take advantage of what the site has to offer, and that our employees will find it a valuable resource, as well,” said Thornton.

The West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety Web site was developed through an innovative public-private partnership between the State of West Virginia and West Virginia Interactive, which was established in 2007 to assist state government agencies in building and managing interactive online services.

West Virginia Interactive, which also developed the State’s main Web site, WV.gov, is a subsidiary of eGovernment firm NIC (NASDAQ: EGOV), the nation’s leading provider of official government portals and online services.
