Street closures scheduled near W.Va. Capitol Complex for 2017 Inauguration

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia Capitol Police are advising the public that sections of both Kanawha Boulevard and California Avenue will close from 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13 until 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16 for the inauguration events at the W.Va. Capitol.

All lanes of Kanawha Boulevard will close from Greenbrier Street to Michigan Avenue. California, which runs through the eastern side of the campus, will close from the boulevard to Washington Street.

Traffic will detour via Washington and Piedmont Road, which runs north of the campus.

The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, and is expected to draw a large crowd.

Also known as the Division of Protective Services, the Capitol Police provide for the safety and security of those who work, visit and do business at the West Virginia State Capitol Complex and other state government facilities. It is part of the Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety.
